Connecticut and New York State Medical Societies have teamed up to host the 2nd Annual Clinical Healthcare Conference in Havana, Cuba. The Conference will be unique and very educational for all guests. Visits to Cuban Hospitals and Clinic, while experiencing Cuban culture. Learn the most current, evidence-based clinical practice for key core competency-based topics in medicine and their guidelines from professionals in your field.

Due to the popularity of this venue and location as a family destination during Cuba’s peak-season (November through March, this conference will have limited availability of 70 hotel rooms (200 persons (max)).

The conference package prices list below are based on double occupancy. Each conference package provides, conference with 24 CME credits, hotel accommodations, transportation, excursions, meals, conference events, gala dinner, with entertainment and dinner (as outlined in the conference itinerary), and travel authorization documents. Conference registration fee, Cuban visa, and round trip airfare from JFK to Havana are separate from conference package price.

(6 Days/5 Nights)

Day 1 – Friday: Meet and Greet in Havana, Cuba

  • Arrive at Jose Marti Airport (Havana)
  • Transfer to Hotel – Habana Libre
  • Check-in to Habana Libre Hotel
  • Welcome Reception and Cocktail
  • Lunch will be on your own (recommendations if needed)
  • Relax and unwind and explore the hotel and surrounding area
  • Dinner is on your own (we can help with reservations)
  • Entertainment is available (Tropicana is recommended)

Day 2 – Saturday: Beautiful Day to Learn About Cuba’s Medical System

  • Breakfast in hotel
  • Mandatory sign-in from 8:00 – 8:35am – Transfer to Conference room at CIMEQ
  • 8:50am – 12:15pm – NYMSS/CSMS Introductions and Plenary discussion
  • Overview: The CSMS forum brings together leaders from the most forward thinking community health center organizations for their 2nd annual conference to share ideas on how to improve health care delivery across the country. The conference features a CIMEQ introduction and 2 Cuban physician speakers that will discuss the Cuban Healthcare System and Infectious Diseases in Cuba. This lecture will provide discussions around innovations and tactics that can help improve health center operations and outcomes in a rapidly changing world.
  • 12:00pm – 1:30pm – Lunch in Cuban Restaurant with Cuban Physicians for open discussion on group topics
  • 2:00pm – 4:30pm – UNESCO Old Havana Walking Tour (everyone)
  • 6:30pm – 8:30pm – Dinner at La Paila Cuban Restaurant
  • 8:30pm – The night is open for entertainment (selected during registration)

For those not attending the conference: People-to-people activities

  • 9:00am – 11:30am – Fusterlandia and Art tour
  • 9:00am – 11:30am – Hemingway tour
  • All guest will meet up for lunch and then participate in the Old Havana Walk tour

Day 3 – Sunday: Getting to know Havana’s Medical Hospitals

  • Breakfast in hotel
  • Mandatory sign-in from 8:00 – 8:35am – Transfer to Conference room at CIMEQ
  • 8:50am – 11:00am – Overview: This lecture will provide a look into Cuba’s specialty healthcare sectors, such as Radiology and Oncology and how these specialties work with the community. Cuban physician speakers who will share their experience on various healthcare fields and topics (determined by group composition).
  • 11:00am – 12:45pm – Lecturing tour of the Cuban medical clinic Las Praderas, an international clinic on the outskirts of Havana. Here you will get a first hand look at the clinics conditions and understand their hardships and challenges to provide quality care through the local physicians and nurses.
  • 1:00pm – 2:00pm – Lunch at a Cuban paladar with Cuban physicians to have open discussions on recent clinic visit.
  • 2:15pm – 6:15pm – People-to-People excursion (available during registration)
  • 6:30 – 8:30pm – Dinner at the wonderful DeCameron restaurant
  • 8:30pm – Entertainment is available (select during registration)

Day 4 – Monday: Havana – Exploring Cuba and Meeting the People

  • Breakfast in hotel
  • Mandatory sign-in from 8:00 – 8:30am – Conference room at Habana Libre
  • 8:35am – 8:45am – NY/CSMS opening remarks
  • 8:45am – 9:30am – CSMS Speaker on Radiology
  • 9:30am – 12:00pm – Special Access to Hermanos Amejeiras Hospital where we will learn from our lecturing physician on the hospitals history, capabilities, and limitation.
  • 12:15pm – 1:30pm – Lunch at a local Cuban paladar with Cuban physicians to interact in open dialogue about the recent visit to the hospital or any other group topics.
  • 1:45pm – 6:45pm – Transfer back to hotel to rest and relax
  • 7:00pm – 11:30pm – Gala dinner and entertainment at the roof top restaurant in Habana Libre hotel Menu set: Sharing starters, choice of main course, choice of dessert, 2 drinks (cocktails, beer, soda, water, coffee). We will have a private Cuban group of performers and singers during the dinner.
  • Free night to explore Havana after the Gala dinner

  • Mafia tour (select during registration)

Day 5 – Tuesday: Exploring Cuba and Making New Friends

  • Breakfast in hotel
  • 9:00am – 11:30am – Facilitated discussion on self-reflection, learning experiences while in Cuba, potential impact on quality of care in Cuba, Cuba’s healthcare systems, health policies, and to say farewell to our Cuban hosts and physicians.
  • Lunch on your own
  • People-to-People excursions will be available (sign-up during registration)
  • Dinner on your own (we can help with reservations)
  • Entertainment is available at Buena Vista Social Club (select during registration)

Day 6 – Wednesday: Saying Goodbye to an Old Friend

*Airfare can be arranged on JetBlue through USA-CUBA Tours when registering for the conference or you can book your own flight. If you chose to book your own flight and use a different airline, we can help you with acquiring a Cuban visa in advance, cost is $100.00.

** All guest traveling on JetBlue will be required to buy their Cuban tourist visa at the ticket counter, cost is $50.00. The Cuban medical insurance is included in the cost of the airfare.

Itinerary Options

We offer many different excursions and shows that you can add onto your conference package tour during registration. Entertainment, such as Tropicana, Buena Vista Social Club, Cannon Ceremony, Salsa Dancing at Club 1830, or live Jazz music and the Jazz Café (see registration form for details). Remember, Tropicana requires slacks and collared shirt for men (sandals and open toe shoes are fine).

We are also offering a 2 night vacation at the all-inclusive hotel resort Sol Palmeras in Varadero, Cuba (select during registration). This excursion will have you and your family relaxing and enjoying this beautiful island and all Cuba has to offer. What a great way to end your productive conference.
